PAEP's mission — uniting and empowering environmental professionals in Pakistan — is explicitly built around the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Here's how our work maps onto them.
Why the SDGs anchor our work
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals, adopted by all UN member states in 2015, set a shared global framework for ending poverty, protecting the planet, and ensuring prosperity by 2030. Pakistan is a signatory, and its National SDG Framework guides how federal and provincial governments plan and report progress. As a professional association working across environmental disciplines, PAEP treats the SDGs as a common language between our members, government counterparts, and international partners.
The goals most central to PAEP's work
- SDG 6 — Clean Water and Sanitation: relevant to PAEP's work on water security, groundwater depletion, and the Indus basin.
- SDG 7 — Affordable and Clean Energy: ties to PAEP's renewable energy pillar — solar, wind, and energy efficiency in Pakistan.
- SDG 11 — Sustainable Cities and Communities: covers urban heat, air quality, and waste management work.
- SDG 13 — Climate Action: the umbrella for PAEP's climate stabilization pillar and most of its published analysis.
- SDG 15 — Life on Land: connects to PAEP's wildlife preservation pillar and forest/biodiversity advocacy.
